Our Story

Benefield Funeral Homes has been serving the Lineville and Ashland area community for many years. We’re thankful to be an important part of this community and will continue our longstanding legacy of helping families honor their loved ones.

 

 

The Benefield Funeral Homes began in 1972 as a partnership between two brothers, Donald and E.Z. Benefield. Initially based in Wedowee, the firm established its Lineville location in 1975 with E.Z. as the resident funeral director and manager. E. Z. brought his three sons, Scott, Matt and David, into the funeral service profession over the years, teaching them by example the family tradition of "professional service with personal care." He also expanded his operation in Clay County by purchasing the former Jackson Funeral Home in Ashland in 1989. Today, David is the sole owner of the Benefield Funeral Homes in Lineville and Ashland and works as manager, funeral director and embalmer. His "founding father" E.Z. still actively serves his community members during their time of need. An original staff member from 1972, Scott joined the U.S. Air Force in 1974 and after retiring in 1995 returned to the funeral home as a family service counselor and memorial sales agent. He is now serving as a licensed funeral director and is active in the funeral homes' daily operations. On February 12, 2019 the owner's son Lawson completed all requirements and is now a fully licensed funeral director and embalmer. He is now the third will become the third generation of licensed funeral directors and embalmers at Benefield Funeral Homes of Ashland and Lineville.
