Funeral services for Mr. W. D. “Dan” Shaddix, age 82 of Lineville, will be Friday, May 4, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at New Harmony Christian Church in Lineville with Reverend Zenus Windsor officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
Mr. Shaddix passed away on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at the Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center in Anniston. Born in Camp Hill and raised in Wadley, Dan started his business in the 1950s as the owner and operator of Shaddix Pulpwood Company in Cragford. In 1967, he opened Shaddix Pulpwood, Lumber and Sawmill in Lineville. Dan worked 12 hours a day until his recent surgery and passing. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Signal Corps and was a member of New Harmony Christian Church.
Mr. Shaddix is survived by his wife of 30 years, Sara Shaddix of Lineville; three daughters: Sherri Shaddix and Tammi Shaddix, both of Dothan and Melanie McDonald (William) of Lineville; three sons: Danny Shaddix (Sharon) of Ragland, Jamie Shaddix (Tammi) of Prattville and Jeff Byars (Sharon) of Lineville; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Billy Bryant, Marvin McVey, Chris Hayes, Curtis Wellborn, W.N. McCollum, Albert Gregg, Tommy Odom and Jerry Hall.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kermit Caldwell, Paul Mitchell, Johnny McVey, J.C. McVey, Amos Hill, Fred Pearson, James McGraw, Buster Robertson, Fred Bailey, Ray Dunn, Richard Cotney, Carlton DeVaughn, Joe McVey, Ricky McVey, Donald Bowen, Sherl Hendon, Walter Morris, William Harmon, Junior Morrison, Roger Turley and Monty Giddens.
The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville on Friday, May 4, 2012 from 9:00 A.M. to 1:30 P.M.
Flowers will be accepted; however, the family prefers memorial contributions be made to New Harmony Christian Church,6428 County Road 870, Lineville, AL 36266.
