U.S. Veteran

Funeral services for Mr. Roy M. Hudson, age 76 of Lineville, will be Saturday, April 7, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at Barfield Baptist Church with Rev. John Howell officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.

Mr. Hudson passed away on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at the Lineville Health and Rehabilitation Center. A native and life-long resident of Lineville, he had worked for a number of years as a truck driver for Spurlin Oil Company. After leaving the company in 1970, Roy worked for the next 30 years as a poultry and cattle producer. He was a former Clay County Commissioner and a member of Barfield Baptist Church where he served as a part of the “Joy Club” and as a member of the Men’s Adult Sunday School Class. A veteran of the Alabama Army National Guard, Roy was known for his dry wit, his knack for giving people and places unique and humorous nicknames but most dearly loved fishing with his grandchildren.

Mr. Hudson is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nettie Sue Hudson of Lineville; two daughters: Pam Loveless (Doyle) of Lineville and Cindy Deerman (Brian) of Childersburg; two sons: Mike Rose (Susan) and Scottie Hudson (Sonya), both of Lineville; eleven grandchildren: Jeremy Rose and Amber Rose (Todd), Rachel and Emily Loveless, Paige and Jake Lee, Mallory, Matt and Miranda Deerman, Ryder Hudson and Russ Foster (April); four great-grandchildren: Kayle and Ben Deerman and Hudson and Aubrie Foster.

Mr. Hudson was preceded in death by his parents, Grady McDonald Hudson and Esther Foster Hudson; one infant son, Roy Phillip Hudson and three brothers: Charles, Jimmy and Willard Hudson.

Pallbearers will be Russ Foster, Josh Graben, Steve Foster, Doug Foster, David Mattox, Kenneth Denson, Justin McCollum, Wade Davidson, Mac Hudson, Jake Lee and Ryder Hudson.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Elton Reeves, Johnny Brown, F.D. “Sonny” Clark, Rob McDonald, Fred Reddish, Hugh Joe Hendrix, Lloyd Sparks, Jimmy Jordan, Jeff Kinder and the Staff of Lineville Health and Rehabilitation Center with special appreciation to Teresa Henderson, Geri Johnson, Valesa Whaley, Ricco and Bita.

The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville on Friday, April 6, 2012 from 5:30 P.M. until 8:00 P.M and until service time on Saturday.

Flowers will be accepted; however memorial contributions may be made to Barfield Baptist Church, 74 East Mill Road, Lineville, AL 36266.

Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville is in charge of the arrangements.
